A Shoe Addict's Christmas

Hallmark Tagline:

"Tis the season to believe that shoes are a girl's best friend." UGH.

Hallmark Holiday Movie Checklist:
  • A flirty horse-drawn carriage ride through the city
  • A flirty cookie-making scene.
  • Tragic dead parent who was the embodiment of the holiday spirit
  • Character named after some sort of Christmas derivative (Noelle)
  • Workaholic woman who no longer believes in the magic of Christmas
  • Guardian angel that imbues people with the “Holiday Spirit” and changes lives

This Hallmark Holiday movie review was written by the ever delightful,Virginia Rohan. Not only are we grateful that a published writer has agreed to be a part of our little blog but we also think she is far too nice to be writing these.  ;)

I always pose for pics with a stranger when I get locked in a department store overnight.

Synopsis:

Noelle used to love Christmas, but these days, the only holiday element that still excites her is the prospect of finding a new pair of shoes under the tree. The title “addict” may be too strong a term, though. Noelle simply loves shoes — just like her late mom did. Noelle once aspired to be a photographer, but now, she works in Human Resources at Fulton’s, a big department store in an unnamed city. One afternoon not long before Christmas, Alex Fulton, her boss, sends her on an implausible mission to the store’s basement archives. When Noelle resurfaces, hours later, she discovers that the store has closed early, because of snow, and she’s been accidentally locked in. While Noelle awaits rescue, a strange woman in red named Charlie (Jean Smart) knocks over the store’s “shoe tree,” then insists that Noelle try on a particular pair of high heels. These magically transport Noelle to a Christmas past — three years ago, when her boyfriend (and photography mentor) broke up with her on Christmas Eve. When the fire department comes to free Noelle, one of her rescuers is a hunky firefighter named Jake, who happens to have just moved into her apartment building. Coincidences abound! Fulton’s will be doing a charity gala to benefit Jake’s fire company. Noelle’s in charge of it and Luke gets assigned as her liaison. Chemistry ensues.

But will Noelle let herself take a chance on love and career dreams again????

Favorite Line:

Alex Fulton (store owner): “Everyone should have someone in their life who looks at them the way you look at shoes.”

Random Thoughts We Had During this Movie:

How does Bure remain perennially adorable?

Why does it take an entire fire squad to rescue one woman from a locked department store?

How is it that Jean Smart so convincingly played the matriarch of a crime family in the series “Fargo,” but strains credulity as a guardian angel here?

When she finds a mysterious shopping bag on her doorstep, why does Noelle so readily open it and put on the shoes inside?

Shouldn’t she at least have checked to make sure the package wasn’t ticking?

Where can I get Noelle’s to-die-for wardrobe?

Why does the store’s owner react SO badly to Jake’s suggestion that a giant snowman and some reindeer be among the decorations at the gala?

Does Jake actually fight fires or just rescue damsels and plan galas?

Will Charles Dickens’ estate sue for damages?

Conclusion:  It’s as if Carrie Bradshaw somehow wandered into a bad production of “A Christmas Carol.”
